Grade Replacement

If you previously earned a low grade in an course, you may choose to retake the course and utilize Grade Replacement in an attempt to improve your cumulative GPA.

UNC Charlotte students may use a maximum of two (2) grade replacements during their time at the University.

When you utilize one of your two allotted grade replacement opportunties, you should be reasonably confident that repeating the course with a Grade Replacement will result in a significantly better grade.

To get started, review the Grade Replacement Policy and Instructional Video on Niner Central’s website. You may also review the policy in the Undergraduate Catalog.

Grade Replacement will automatically be applied for the first two courses (maximum of 8 credit hours) repeated where the previous grade earned was a C or below. You will have until the withdrawal deadline for the term or half term to “opt-out” of using Grade Replacement or elect to apply grade replacement to a different course being repeated during the same term.

Students who plan to withdraw from a selected grade-replacement course should cancel the grade replacement transaction before they withdraw from the course to prevent the course withdrawal from consuming one of their two allotted grade replacements.

Once Grade Replacement has been applied or after you make changes to your Grade Replacement in Banner Self-Service, an automated email will be sent confirming the change. For additional questions/concerns about Grade Replacement, contact your 49er Rebound College Representative or your Academic Advisor.

Any grade replacement elections made on courses in Spring 2020, Fall 2020, and Spring 2021 are excluded from the maximum number of allowable grade replacements.
