Life happens, paths detour, but your journey at Charlotte can continue. Whether you left on a break or are returning after an academic suspension, this guide will map out your steps to bounce back and cross that graduation stage!

Choose your pathway back

Standard Readmission

Who it’s for: You left UNC Charlotte in good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher), but you haven’t taken classes for 24 consecutive months.

Readmission After Academic Suspension

Who it’s for: You were previously placed on academic suspension and are ready to try again.

Your Academic Suspension Appeal must be approved before the deadline.

Summer Only

Once suspended, you can apply for Summer-Only Readmission to take classes and boost your GPA as a non-degree student. Please note: A decision for fall readmission will not be made until grades are posted after the second half of summer.

Academic Forgiveness

If you’ve been away for at least 24 consecutive months or earned a transferrable Associate’s Degree from a NC community college, you can apply for readmission under Academic Forgiveness. Please note: Taking classes as a Summer-Only student resets the clock for Academic Forgiveness.

Step-by-Step Readmission Checklist

  1. Apply Online: Log into your Future 49er Portal and submit your application.
  2. Pay the Application Fee: Submit your non-refundable $75 application fee. If you qualify for the 49er Finish Program, this fee is waived.
  3. Send Transcripts: Submit official transcripts from every college you attended during your break in enrollment from Charlotte to transcripts@charlotte.edu.
  4. Wait: Your application will go through a safety, GPA, and departmental review that will take 4-6 weeks. This can’t be sped up.
  5. Attend Advising & Register: Once admitted, use Connect to schedule a meeting with your Academic Advisor. They will clear your registration hold.
